BIG CAT: Sightings of cougars like this one photographed in Montana have recently been popping up in Cass and White counties. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, adult cats reach 140 pounds and eight feet including their tail and live up to eight years. They can swim, climb trees and leap great distances. Their main diet is deer but they also hunt smaller mammals. They normally do not chase their prey. They stalk and ambush. Humans are the only natural enemy of cougars, which are also known as ghost cat, catamount, puma, painter, panther and mountain lion.
