Hubenthal 90th

Charles Hubenthal, rural Lucerne, will celebrate his 90th birthday at an open house planned by his children and their families. It will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Metea Baptist Church.

Charles was born Sept. 24, 1920, to George and Osa Hubenthal. On April 8, 1951, he was married to Marilyn Bevington. They have three children, Jim (Carolyn), Kokomo; Mary Beth Stang (Gene), Kokomo; and Chuck (Yoshiko), Yokohama, Japan.

There are also 10 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, five great-grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

He and Marilyn live on a farm down the road from the farm where he grew up. His sister, Vera Pickens, lives there now. In 1944, he received his commission as a Navy pilot and flew fighters off the carrier USS Essex in the Okinawa and Japan campaign. Along with farming, he attended business college. He retired as an auditor for the state of Indiana. After retirement, he raised a herd of Angus cattle. He attends and has been a member of Metea Baptist Church all his life.

His retirement is enjoyable as he has time to do such things as Sudokus and keeping track of his children and their families by visits on the Internet.

It is requested that gifts be omitted. Visiting with family and friends will be his gifts.
