18 freight train cars derail on Indy's west side

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis fire official says 18 cars of a CSX freight train have derailed on the city's far west side but the accident has caused no injuries.

Indianapolis Fire Department Capt. Rita Burris says Wednesday morning's derailment resulted in no fires or leaks among the derailed CSX cars. She says the rail cars have been returned to the tracks but crews from the Wayne Township Fire Department remain at the scene.

WTHR-TV reports that emergency crews were dispatched to the area about 5:50 a.m. and that rails at the accident site were reportedly bent.
