Ind. girl's drug test results were erroneous

FORT WAYNE — Northeastern Indiana prosecutors say tests showing that a 7-year-old Fort Wayne girl had PCP and other drugs in her system were erroneous and no criminal charges will be filed in the case.

Allen County Prosecutor Karen Richards says the test results on the girl were "false positives." Those results had shown methadone, marijuana and PCP in the girl's system after she was brought Feb. 27 to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Methadone is a synthetic opiate used to treat pain as well as heroin addiction, while PCP is an illegal narcotic that can cause hallucinations.

Richards says the hospital does not believe the tests were accurate.

A Parkview Hospital spokesman tells the Journal Gazette  the girl's test results were a "false positive" but declined to comment further.
