Hog hauler topples, closes U.S. 35 southbound

LOGANSPORT — A semi-trailer full of hogs toppled over at the U.S. 35/24 Dunkirk exchange on Logansport's west side this morning, closing both southbound lanes of U.S. 35.

Sheriff's deputies were dispatched at 11:09 a.m. to the scene, where an eastbound semi driven by Kevin Rentfrow, a 25-year-old Reynolds resident, had rolled onto its side as it turned south on U.S. 35.

It was unknown how many hogs were in the trailer, or how many had survived the crash, said deputy Mike Shannon. Staff from Tyson's Fresh Meats had been called in to take care of the hogs.

U.S. 35 southbound remained closed at 12:20 p.m. The sheriff's office did not have an estimate on what time it would reopen.
