Sheriff's department investigating report of shots fired in Walton

Investigators say bullets hit vehicle and several homes

WALTON — Sheriff's investigators say gunfire struck several homes and at least three vehicles on the north edge of Walton Wednesday night, after two individuals had a verbal altercation.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office reportedly responded about 10:49 p.m. to a report of shots fired in the 500 block of Turner Terrace.

Investigators say 35-year-old Steven C. Seals of Walton fired shots at the vehicle of Ramon Gonzalez of Walton as it traveled near Seals' residence. Seals was arrested Wednesday night on a preliminary charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Investigators say the shots, which reportedly hit the vehicle and several homes, apparently were a result of a verbal altercation between Seals and Gonzalez.

According to a sheriff's department news release, officers were already on the way to the address in response to a call at 10:28 p.m. for a welfare check on a child. Deputies reportedly arrived at the residence at 10:53 p.m.

Seals was found in the front yard with an AR-15 assault rifle. He was also found with two handguns, a 9mm Glock and a Ruger .380 caliber, on his person. The shots fired came from a .223 caliber rifle.

Seals was booked into the Cass County Jail.

The investigation was ongoing this morning.
