From Staff Reports
According to information released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Cass County has 874 persons unemployed as of May 2007, the lowest number since December of 2000. The latest numbers are an improvement from 994 persons in April of 2007.
Also, the unemployment rate for Cass County has dropped to its lowest level in more than five and half years to 4.7 percent, a significant drop from 5.4 percent in the previous month.
“We track these numbers monthly and are always pleased to see a positive direction,” said Nolan “Skip” Kuker, president of the Logansport-Cass County Economic Development Foundation, in a press release. “It is very important to monitor the trends, if any, that these numbers provide. As with any part of an economy, our community has to continue to work very hard to continue to improve in many areas.”
The LEDF held its regular meeting Friday morning and Kuker also gave updates on the nine named projects the organization is working on. Though Cass County was not selected for one project, he said that one is very close to an official announcement and others have continued interest in Cass County.
