Cass unemployment rate down in July

The Cass County unemployment rate is the lowest level for a July in six years, according to recently released information from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The rate was at 5 percent for July of 2007, down from 5.1 percent in June. The week ending July 28 had 226 people receiving jobless benefits in Cass County. Preliminary numbers of initial claims indicate a downward trend for August.

“The LEDF tracks these numbers on a monthly basis and are only part of the information that we use. Parts of what we also track are where jobs are being created. It is hoped that these trends continue,” said Skip Kuker, president of the Logansport-Cass County Economic Development Foundation, in a press release.
