The Cass County Community Foundation is in the market for some great ideas.
If you were trying to come up with some projects to make life better in Logansport and Cass County, what would they be?
Think of this as a countywide brainstorming session. There are no bad ideas.
If you were coming up with a wish list for this community, what project would you put at the top of the list?
The sky isn’t the limit, of course. The foundation last year handed out grants totalling about $54,000.
And it can’t fix everything. It won’t be able to reform education, restructure local government or lower property taxes, but it might be able to give a boost to a local project such as a new animal shelter.
The foundation provided a grant of $10,000 toward the animal shelter project last year. It also gave $16,500 to put a new roof on the Emmaus Mission Center.
The Cass County 4-H Fair got $7,450 for community center renovations, Big Brothers Big Sisters got $1,500 to expand the organization’s Local Hero program in middle schools and the Walton Youth Baseball League got $10,000 to bring its facilities in line with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The Cass County Family YMCA was awarded $9,000 to install a security system.
In years past, the foundation has funded numerous projects, including putting up seed money for the annual Med Flory Jazz and Blues Festival.
The foundation’s executive director, Deanna Crispen, said the foundation would invite applications from local non-profit organizations again this year, but she said board members also wanted to hear from the general public.
“If there is someone out there close to an issue and how to fix it, we want to know,” she said.
The foundation will publish a feedback form in coming issues of the Pharos-Tribune, but you can also send along suggestions by phone or by e-mail. The foundation’s goal is to expand the circle of people providing input.
“I guarantee we are going to get something and say, ‘Wow, I never thought of that,’” Crispen said.
