Show to be performed at McHale PAC

All Saints Catholic School PTO is sponsoring the Chicago-based comedy production of Late Nite Catechism 2: Sister Strikes Back! 

This show is not just for Catholics. 

The show is at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 24 at the McHale Performing Arts Center.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the McHale box office, online at www.entertainmentevents.com, or by calling the school at 574-753-3410. 

Proceeds will benefit All Saints Catholic School.



Annual carnival slated at Pioneer

ROYAL CENTER — Pioneer Elementary is holding their annual carnival and dinner on Friday, April 23.

The carnival is from 5 to 8 p.m. Pre-carnival tickets are available at the school. They are five for $1.

The night of the carnival, tickets will be four for $1. Most games take two or three tickets.

Tickets are $7.50 for adults and $4.50 for children (ages 5-12). Tickets may be purchased at the elementary or at the door.

The dinner is Dan’s Fish and Chicken and will be served from 4:30 until 7:30 p.m. The meal includes fish/chicken, cole slaw, potato chips, dessert and drink (tea, lemonade or water).

Carry outs are available.





Ivy Tech offers HR conference

Ivy Tech Community College will be offering a Human Resource Professional Development Conference through its Department of Workforce and Economic Development on April 22 in Logansport.

The conference will consist of the following four sessions led by area industry experts, with each one covering a hot-button issue in the field of human resources:

• Conducting effective performance evaluations: Participants will discover the process experts use to devise and conduct performance evaluations to improve employee performance, build relationships, and to unlock their hidden potential. They will learn how to apply proven methods and techniques to make existing evaluation processes work even better.

• Positive employee motivation: Participants will learn how to reinforce team values, commitment, and loyalty in a “me-first” world.

They will explore how successful leaders “fire up” their employees to take ownership, share ideas, and to remain committed to working together with enthusiasm, pride and fun.

• “You make the call”: Participants will discuss real-life HR situations and decide the legal course of action to take by "making the call."

The presenter will share what "really happened" and what the law and courts say on subjects like: FMLA, wage and hour, hiring, discipline, termination, ADA, WC, EEO Discrimination, harassment, unemployment and other legal challenges.

• Employee communication at work: Participants will discover how to connect with employees through positive, genuine and honest communication. They’ll find out the secrets that make good leaders great by strengthening interpersonal relationships, trust, and expectations through words and actions.

The conference fee is $135, which includes lunch. It will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the new Ivy Tech Community College Logansport campus, 1 Ivy Tech Way. It will include minimal lecture

with high group interaction and activities including multiple, practical application exercises. Continuing education units are available.

Ivy Tech offering several agriculture scholarships

KOKOMO — Ivy Tech Community College has several $1,000 scholarships available for the 2010–11 academic year to incoming freshmen enrolled in the agriculture program at Ivy Tech Kokomo.

To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must have achieved a 2.0/4.0 grade point average or better in high school and submit an application by April 30.

Ivy Tech to offer basic fishing clinic on April 20

KOKOMO — Ivy Tech Community College will be offering a basic fishing clinic through its Department of Workforce and Economic Development on April 20 from 9 a.m. to noon. The clinic is the first in a two-part series that also includes an advanced fishing class.

Students enrolling in the class will learn about all aspects of basic fishing; including safety, regulations, proper equipment such as rods and reels, fishing line, bobbers, and hooks. Fish identification along with the proper bait for different fish also will be discussed.

Tips and techniques for successful fishing will be covered.

The basic fishing clinic will be instructed by avid bass tournament angler and outdoor columnist for the Kokomo Perspective newspaper, Bud Fields. He is a certified professional outdoorsman and hunting and fishing instructor with more than sixty years of fishing experience. The course fee is $25.

Ivy Tech to offer two more SAT preparation courses

KOKOMO — Ivy Tech Community College will be offering two more

SAT preparation courses during the coming months for college-bound high school students through its Department of Workforce and Economic Development. The classes will be held at  the college’s Workforce and Economic Development building in Kokomo, 1701 Touby Pike.

The CollegeBoard® SAT preparation course delivers comprehensive school-based programs that produce results and use actual standardized tests to provide detailed skills analysis.

Students will receive feedback focusing on their weaker skills and areas for improvement.

The course consists of eight hours of preparation spread out over two consecutive Saturdays. The class costs $55 and will be offered in Kokomo on the following dates and times: April 17 and 24, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and May 15 and 22, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

College-bound high school students are encouraged to take one of the CollegeBoard® SAT preparation courses because most colleges and universities require students to meet a minimum SAT score prior to admission. In addition, many scholarships and grants require minimum SAT scores. By properly preparing for the test, students can improve their scores. The next official SAT test dates are March 13, May 1, and June 5.

Ivy Tech to offer advanced paranormal course

KOKOMO — Ivy Tech Community College is offering its first-ever advanced paranormal investigation course through its Department of Workforce and Economic Development. The class will run on Thursdays from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. April 22 through May 13, in the

college’s Workforce and Economic Development building, 1701 Touby Pike, in Kokomo.

In building off of the introduction to paranormal investigation course, Al Taylor, PR Director of Indiana Ghost Trackers, will take students even further into the world of the paranormal with this advanced course. Students will learn advanced investigative techniques, visit a local family’s house and also a cemetery, and cover electronic voice phenomena (EVP) and paranormal photography in depth.

The course fee is $55. Students must be 16 years of age or older to participate. To register for the advanced paranormal investigation course offered through Ivy Tech’s Department of Workforce and

Ivy Tech’s Design Technology Program to host alumni forum

KOKOMO  — Ivy Tech Community College’s Design Technology Program will host an alumni forum on Tuesday, April 20, at 6 p.m. in Alumni Hall on its main Kokomo campus, 1815 E. Morgan St. The event is free, and the public is encouraged to attend.

The forum will offer prospective students the opportunity to meet successful Ivy Tech Design Technology Program graduates, to ask them questions, and to learn more about the program and its graduates’ career opportunities. The alumni will discuss their experiences at Ivy Tech, their job search and their current positions.
