Columbia Middle School’s speech team recently participated in its first meet of the season and captured a second place trophy. Six teams competed in Plymouth’s middle school speech meet. Columbia’s team was comprised of students competing in six different events: Discussion, impromptu, extemporaneous, radio, poetry and duo.
In discussion, Connor Rominger and Jake Hawes achieved first and second-place ribbons, respectively. Taylor Tibbs placed second in extemporaneous speaking. Scott Terrell placed sixth in radio, with Willem Cripe fifth, Cody Kopke fourth, and Victor Boggs second. Devon Benn earned a third in impromptu, while Courtney Collis placed seventh in poetry. In duo interpretation, April Pickens and Avery Penn earned seventh. Also participating in duo were Yudy Perez and Sandra Hernandez.
The students will compete again on Saturday when Columbia hosts a speech meet for several area schools.
