A Monticello man was arrested Monday on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine in his vehicle.
Sgt. Jim Klepinger of the Cass County Drug Task Force reported that police received information about 2 p.m. Monday that someone would be setting up a clandestine lab to manufacture methamphetamine.
Officers from the task force set up surveillance on the individual as he traveled throughout the county, buying several items used to create methamphetamine.
Klepinger said the man bought sodium hydroxide, ammonium nitrate, pseudophederine tablets and organic solvents. After the purchases, Klepinger said, the individual mixed the ingredients together and fired up the lab in his vehicle.
Police arrested 27-year-old Justin Rhymer of Monticello at 8 p.m.
Monday near the Cass-Carroll county line on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, a class B felony. He remained Tuesday evening in the Cass County Jail under a bond of $5,000 cash/$25,000 surety.
The investigation is ongoing, and Klepinger predicted additional arrests in the near future.
