ROYAL CENTER — Two more buildings are slated to come down this winter in Royal Center.
The two-story former location of Moser’s drug store at 108 Chicago St., across the street from the Royal Center post office, and the former A-Team Realty office next door at 110 Chicago St. should be demolished sometime in the next few months, according to town officials.
The Royal Center Town Council awarded a Rochester company the project this month.
Jackson Demolition Services was awarded the bid of $47,500 to tear down the old Moser’s building, which the city owns, and the A-Team Realty building owned by Beth DuBois, who owns the realty business.
The council is expected to officially appropriate funds for the project at its Dec. 3 meeting.
The old Moser’s building was in poor shape, but it couldn’t be torn down without damaging the A-Team office, said DuBois. She agreed to let the city tear her building down, too, and intends to rebuild a new office on the site.
“I’ve been scared to death someone’s going to get hurt,” DuBois said about debris from the old Moser’s building. “Windows are falling down into the streets.”
Town council president Conrad Funk said the old building was “going to fall down.”
“They’re dangerous,” he said. “The used-to-be owners wouldn’t take care of it, so we finally decided that if we’re going to get the town cleaned up, we’re going to have to do it.”
Funk added that plans are to get it torn down this winter, as long as the weather cooperates.
Royal Center acquired the building in September. The town council hasn’t discussed what it will do with the empty lot after the building is torn down, Funk said.
DuBois’ realty office is moving to 109 McCombs St. DuBois said she doesn’t have definite plans yet for building a new office.
“These buildings coming down in this town is going to make this town so much nicer,” said DuBois.
