Logansport continues clean-up efforts

Mayor Ted Franklin continues to work with property owners

LOGANSPORT — A house located at 1524 Treen St. was brought before the Logansport board of public works and safety on Wednesday morning.  

Building Commissioner Jim Bacon stated  the house had several problems including a hole in the roof. He said although it was condemned he thought it could be fixed. Mayor Ted Franklin said there have been reports of animals getting in through holes in the house. 

“We’re trying to be more aggressive with properties in Logansport,” Franklin said. 

The property owned by Corbin and Janice Wilfong has been paid off since February. They are now attempting to sell it or donate it to Habitat for Humanity for tax purposes, Corbin said.

The Wilfongs, who now live in Lafayette, said they are getting bids to tear the property down. 

“We can understand his position,” Janice said. “He’s reasonable and we appreciate that he’s taking the time to work with us.” 

Franklin said that he would be happy if the outside of the property was cleaned up. He also asked the Wilfongs to submit a long term plan of action at a future meeting. 

The Wilfongs will be asked to come back before the board in two weeks.
