Logansport Memorial Hospital CEO Brian Shockney has announced his resignation.
Shockney has accepted a position as chief operating officer of the Clarian Arnett Health System in Lafayette. The facility is part of the Clarian statewide network.
Shockney called the move a step forward in his career.
“This represents a very progressive step in my career with new and exciting opportunities for me and my family,” he said in a statement released from the hospital.
Alan Biggs, chief operating officer at the hospital, said Shockney would be “very missed.”
“We’ve had several years of very strong operations,” Biggs said. “We are very proud of the work we’ve been able to do under Brian, and very proud of him and the opportunity he’s been prepared for. We wish him all the best.”
Biggs said he and Shockney had worked together for about a dozen years.
“We had a pretty young executive team with Brian as our leader,” Biggs said. “And we’ve really done some great things over the years with him.”
Among the highlights of Shockney’s tenure, Biggs said, were the creation of the River Bluff trail, the expansion of the emergency room, the renovation of private rooms and the construction of a new entrance and a parking garage.
“They are all things we’re really proud of,” Biggs said.
Biggs said Shockney announced his resignation to the executive staff and board of trustees Monday morning. He said the board would take appropriate actions to fill Shockney’s position.
“We really don’t want to make a lot of comments at this time,” Biggs said. “There will be a board meeting later this week, and we will be discussing the succession plans. We don’t want to speculate in any way.”
Shockney said he believed his work in Logansport had prepared him well for his new position.
“I am grateful for the opportunities I have been afforded,” he said. “Memorial’s leadership team is strong and well equipped to address the future of healthcare as it affects the hospital and those it serves.
“As I prepare to leave Cass County, I thank the community for the positive contributions made to me and my family during my tenure at Logansport Memorial Hospital.”
Shockney’s resignation will be effective May 7.
