New LPD assistant chief named, but questions remain

Detective Michael Clark will be department’s second in command

LOGANSPORT — Detective Michael Clark is Logansport Police Department’s new assistant chief.

Clark, a 22-year veteran of the Logansport Police Department, has served in both the juvenile and adult detective divisions. He also was named Police Officer of the Year in 1999 by the VFW and in 2001 by the BPO Elks Lodge, according to a press release he issued.

“I am excited to have this opportunity to serve on the Logansport Police Department as assistant chief,” Clark said in the release. “With my training, years of experience and the variety of positions I have held within the department, I feel that I can help move the department in a positive direction.”

Clark will assume control of the patrol division and handle scheduling. Plans are also in the works for his office to be on the first floor of the City Building where much of the department's public interaction takes place.

“I will work hard to improve community relations with the citizens of Logansport to be able to protect and serve them to the best of our ability,” he said in the release. “With all of the dedicated, well-trained, professional officers of the Logansport Police Department, we will always strive to protect and serve the citizens of Logansport and make this community a safer place to live, work and raise a family.”

He takes over a position held by Lt. Jim Klepinger until earlier this week. Klepinger has been reassigned to the night shift, though it remains unclear why the move was made.
