The city of Logansport received a $6,613.20 grant for a pavement markings project at railroad crossings, Mayor Ted Franklin said.
The award was announced Wednesday morning at a meeting of the Logansport Board of Public Works and Safety.
Dan Williams, public works superintendent, said the city applied for the grant in February.
“The grant will be used to repaint railroad crossings and put up signs,” Williams said. “We want to make it so people can see them and it’s more safe.”
Williams said repainting the markings would improve the intersections.
City officials regularly apply for grants like this one, Franklin said. He said the city had been notified of the award in September.
If weather permits, Williams said, his crews will be completing the railroad crossing upgrades before the end of the year.
“It’s important we received this grant because it cuts down our operating cost,” Williams said. “We’re not using taxpayer money, and I think it’s great we can get assistance from the state on these projects.”
