Man sentenced to 8 years in prison for dealing meth

Police reported finding drugs in garage of his Logan home

LOGANSPORT — A Logansport man was sentenced this week to eight years in prison for dealing meth.

William Everett Roland, 43, was also sentenced to four years on probation for the class B felony. As part of a plea agreement, a class D felony charge of theft was dismissed.

Police arrested Roland in April 2010 after they say they found methamphetamine and the components to make the drug at his home on North 425 East.

According to police reports, police got a search warrant for the residence, and the Cass County Drug Task Force carried it out.

Officers reported finding a small container of meth in the garage, as well as the components to manufacture the drug in the garage, in a nearby trash pile and in a nearby wooded area.

They also found a .45-caliber pistol in the garage, reports state.

Police reported that Roland told them that he had meth in the garage.

But in a May letter to the county prosecutor’s office, Roland denied that he was dealing the drug.

“At no such time did I manufacture such drugs to deal,” he wrote, suggesting he should be charged instead with a class D felony dealing with the intent to make meth.

He also wrote a letter to Cass Superior Court II Judge Rick Maughmer to ask that he be allowed to enter a drug rehabilitation clinic. He mentioned a clinic in South Bend that court records show he was accepted into.

“I am asking for a second chance to get my life back together,” he wrote the judge in January. “Along with seeking professional help, I won’t let you down.”

Roland was sentenced to serve his prison time in the Indiana Department of Correction, but he may have some options if he completes treatment. The sentence states that if he completes treatment in an intensive substance abuse treatment unit in prison, he may be eligible to serve the rest of his time under the Cass County corrections department.
