DENVER — Two Miami County teens were airlifted from the scene of a single-vehicle accident Saturday.
At 12:28 p.m., the Miami County Sheriff’s Office responded to a crash in the curves west of Denver on Ind. 16. Upon arrival, police discovered a 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck had veered off the road and struck a tree on its driver’s side.
The driver, a 17-year-old from Denver, was extricated once the truck was pulled away from the tree by a wrecker. He suffered several lacerations along with possible head injuries, say police.
The driver and a 17-year-old male passenger from Deedsville were flown from the scene by helicopter. The passenger reportedly sustained fractures to the pelvis region.
A 16-year-old female passenger, also from Deedsville, was transported to Dukes Memorial Hospital in Peru with a complaint of pain.
Police determined that prior to the accident, the truck was being driven eastbound at a high rate of speed, according to a news release. The driver reportedly crossed the center line as another vehicle approached. He overcorrected to avoid a head-on collision and lost control of the truck.
Neither passenger was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The accident remains under investigation by the sheriff’ office.
