One injured after vehicle fire

by Kevin Lilly and Denise Massie

One person was injured Wednesday when the vehicle he was in burst into flames following a collision on U.S. 35.

At about 5 p.m., Cass County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to U.S. 35 and 500S for a two-vehicle, personal-injury accident. Upon arrival, one vehicle, a 1986 Chevy El Camino driven by Steven Livesay, of Onward, was on fire in a ditch.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2004 GMC truck driven south on U.S 35 by David Horrom, of Kokomo, rear-ended the El Camino as Livesay reportedly slowed down to turn onto 500S. The impact sent Livesay’s vehicle into a nearby ditch, where it caught fire while Livesay was still inside.

Livesay escaped, but sustained injuries. He was transported to Logansport Memorial Hospital for treatment. Status of Livesay’s injuries was not available.

According to radio traffic by Cass County dispatchers, one victim suffered a laceration, but was up and walking around.

Cass County EMS and Logansport and Walton fire departments assisted at the scene.
