Arts reception tickets available

The Cass County Arts Alliance is recognizing outstanding volunteers during its Heart of the Arts reception at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Logansport Art Association. 

Outstanding arts leaders, volunteers, advocates and educators will be announced and the evening will culminate with the presentation of the Suanne Schwering Heart of the Arts Award. 

The Heart of the Arts award is presented to someone who has had a significant impact on the local arts community for 10 or more years. 

Desserts, cheeses and wine will be served. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased by calling (574) 735-ARTS.

Ornament pickup slated in Rochester

Anyone who has not picked up their ornaments from the Hope Hospice Memorial Christmas Tree is invited to pick them up during the month of January.

The Hope Hospice office, 420 Main St. in Rochester, is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Booth rental space available for bazaar

Vendors are needed for the Spring Fling Craft Bazaar scheduled for March 14 to benefit the Salvation Army.

All items must be handcrafted.

All booth rental proceeds will go to the Salvation Army to aid in their food program and other programs to benefit our community.

1,953 prisoners booked into jail

The Cass County Sheriff’s Department booked 1,953 prisoners into the county jail in 2008.

According to the department’s year-end report, the prisoners were served 162,478 meals. Deputies drove 43,825 miles transporting prisoners.

In patrolling the county, officers traveled 396,528 miles, issued 461 traffic warnings and wrote 869 traffic citations. They made 69 operating while intoxicated arrests and 134 criminal arrests.

For 2008, deputies investigated 655 accidents, 562 of which were property-damage, 91 were personal-injury and three were fatalities.

Reserve officers compiled 3,845 hours for the year.

Deputies traveled 32,861 miles serving 11,285 civil process papers.

Fish fry fundraiser moves to February

ROYAL CENTER — Due to the sub-zero temperatures and the subsequent game cancellation in January, the Pioneer Band Boosters fish fry has been rescheduled to coincide with the rescheduled Lewis Cass basketball game at Pioneer High School.

The Pioneer Band Boosters will be hosting a Dan’s Fish Fry fundraising dinner from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3 before the home basketball game against Lewis Cass in the cafeteria at Pioneer High School.

The meal will include all-you-can-eat fish or chicken, green beans, applesauce, bread with butter, and a drink. Desserts will be available for a donation as well.

The cost of the meal is $7.50 for ages 13 through adult, and $5.50 for kids ages 6 to 12. Children under age 6 eat for free.

Tickets can be purchased in advance from band students or at the door. Carry-outs will be available.

Proceeds will help support the band program at Pioneer.

VFW post planning chicken, salad bar

An all-you-can-eat broasted chicken buffet and salad bar is planned from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3790, 1023 Erie Ave.

The cost is $7.

Volunteers needed for wildlife center

DELPHI — The Wildcat Wildlife Center in Delphi is looking for volunteers to help with the following: Baby feeders, animal care, maintenance, clerical, data entry, rescues and phones.
