Southeastern School Corp. is set to begin $1.8 million in renovation work at Lewis Cass High School.
A resolution to appropriate funds for the project was approved at Monday night’s school board meeting.
Superintendent John Bevan said the school corporation had sold bonds to fund the project. He said everything was now in place to begin construction.
“Bids have been set,” Bevan said. “We will break ground on part of it during spring break.”
The renovations include remodeling the 40-year-old science laboratory, remodeling and reconstruction of the industrial arts area and the elimination of building space no longer used at the school. Electrical upgrades are also included in the project.
Bevan said Bowman Construction Co. of Marion had the low bid for both the high school project and similar renovations at Thompson and Galveston elementary schools.
Heating and air conditioning systems will be replaced at the schools, along with several windows. These upgrades are covered by the school’s annual budget.
Bevan said work at Lewis Cass was scheduled to be finished in August, the day before school begins.
“Workers will be walking out, and we will be walking in the next day,” he said.
