Barn burns near Clymers

Four fire departments partner to douse flames

CLYMERS — A barn burned to the ground Thursday afternoon.

Early on, Clymers Volunteer Fire Chief Gary Michael suspected a trash fire got out of control and caught the old, wooden structure, but he said the investigation was ongoing.

The initial call came in about 2:40 p.m. Flames and black smoke could be seen from miles away.

Clymers firefighters sought assistance from Logansport, Burrows and Georgetown fire departments. Logansport provided water.

The barn and most of its contents, including two vehicles, were destroyed.

Paul Homburg, a nephew of the property owner, helped recover documents stored inside a safe in the barn. Most appeared to be salvageable.

When firefighters cleared the scene, all that remained was a concrete foundation and burnt lumber.
