From Staff Reports

Logansport police arrested a man who reportedly led officers on a high-speed chase this morning.

Just after 2 a.m., an officer parked at 18th Street and Erie Avenue witnessed a vehicle spinning tires while leaving the gravel parking lot of the Corner Pub. The officer reported he was nearly struck as the Blazer quickly took off from the area.

The vehicle sped north on 18th Street to Market Street with the officer in pursuit, according to a police report. The driver reportedly ran four stop signs and swerved around a squad car set up as a road block. While southbound on 19th Street, the vehicle ran over a curb as it came to a stop.

Police say they apprehended 28-year-old Billy Paul Doughty of Logansport as he fled on foot. Doughty was arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated, resisting law enforcement and criminal recklessness with a vehicle. He was also cited for speeding, disregarding stop signs and false registration.
