Incident remains under investigation

ROCKFIELD — A Lafayette man remains hospitalized after suffering a gunshot wound to the stomach while deer hunting.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Department reported that 45-year-old Todd Combs of Rock Creek Township shot 42-year-old Joe Irwin of Lafayette in the abdomen while the two were hunting together about 6 p.m. Sunday about a mile north of Rockfield.

Irwin was taken by medical helicopter to South Bend Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery, according to a news release from the sheriff’s department.

The sheriff’s department and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources are continuing their investigation of the incident.
