WEB FIRST: Daniels to give update on state revenues

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels plans to give an update on the state’s financial picture by announcing how much Indiana state government got in tax collections in November.

He scheduled the update for today.

Indiana has missed its revenue target by $300 million for the first four months of the fiscal year, prompting Daniels to order budget cuts and other steps to make up for the loss. He has said if the trend continued without cutbacks, a $1.3 billion budget surplus in July would be wiped out by next August.

At least 33 state employees have been laid off, those still on the job will get no pay raises this coming year, and state agencies have been ordered to cut budgets by 10 percent.
