NEW: Second Peru crash victim dies

A second person has died as a result of injuries sustained in a rural Miami County two-vehicle accident on Wednesday.

Jared Fosmore, 22, Wabash, did Thursday at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, according to the Miami County Sheriff Department.

A passenger in Fosmore’s 2002 Dodge Ram, Breeanne Fosmore, remains hospitalized at Lutheran Hospital and is listed in fair condition.

Accident investigators determined the cause of the 2:15 p.m. crash, which occurred on East Wabash Road just west of Paw Paw Pike, was that Jared Fosmore was driving left of center and hit a 2004 Dodge Durango driven by Tony Sharp of Peru head on in the eastbound lanes.

Police have not determined why Fosmore was driving left of center.

Sharp was pronounced dead at the scene by the Miami County Coroner’s Office.

The pickup truck caught fire on impact, trapping the Fosmores inside.

Miami County Sheriff Deputy Eric Meacham and three men who pulled up at the scene rescued Breeanne from the burning vehicle, the sheriff department reported late Tuesday.

Jared remained trapped until the fire was extinguished.
