LHS’ video clip will rock big screens in Indy

90-second clip was filmed Sunday night, already viewed 4,300 times

LOGANSPORT — About 40 Logansport High School students -- and their non-dancing principal -- will hit the big screens Friday.

Their recently created, 90-second video, full of students dancing in the hallways and the Berry Bowl to the song “Party Rock Anthem,” will grace the jumbo screens of Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

The LHS boys basketball team plays Muncie Central at 8:30 p.m. in the home of the Indiana Pacers.

The clip that Principal Matt Jones says “shows Berries’ pride” will air before the teams take the court. It has already been viewed more than 4,300 times on the website Youtube since it was posted Sunday night.

“It shows how much school spirit and pride the students have to be Berries,” Jones said.

Logansport was one of six schools invited to play in the first-ever Super Ball Invitational at the fieldhouse.

Organizers also promoted a video contest for the participating schools. They requested that each school submit at 60- to 90-second video set to “Party Rock Anthem,” a song whose official Youtube video has been viewed more than 365 million times. The contest winner receives $200.

Jones saw the contest as an opportunity.

“I know we have a lot of talented and creative people at the high school,” he said.

Senior class president Sophie Babcock said she was eating lunch when her principal stopped by with a request.

“I want to do it. I want to win,” Babcock said Jones told her.

School officials organized an informational meeting, explaining the idea to students. The catch: The video would be shot on one of their days off.

But 40 to 50 students still showed up Sunday night, decked out in LHS apparel, sports uniforms and cheerleading outfits. Century Career Center’s Greg Allen manned the camera and laid out his vision for the clip, while Babcock taught the students a few dance moves.

Then Allen just rolled the camera, taking footage of Jones walking through the halls surrounded by dancing students. Allen filmed for more than an hour, Babcock said.

“I didn’t know what it would look like,” she said.

Jones saw the finished product Monday morning. Thousands of people have seen it since, and Jones said alumni and former classmates have contacted him about the video.

“It’s been really well-received,” he said.

Babcock likes the video, too. But she still thinks it could have been better.

The students had hoped to convince Jones to bust a dance move or two.

“Mr. Jones was supposed to dance with us,” she said. “It would have been so much funnier.”

The principal said he considered the idea, but thought better of it.

“When I saw Sophie teaching dance moves, I thought it’d be better to stick to my role and leave the dancing to the students,” he said with a laugh.
