LOGANSPORT —
A Peru man lost his life Thursday afternoon in a crash at U.S. 24 and County Road 600 East.
Raymond Parrish, a 57-year-old Peru resident, was pronounced dead at the scene of a wreck that occurred around 3:22 p.m. Thursday. Police do not suspect that alcohol or drugs were involved and say speed was not a factor in the crash.
Parrish was riding a 2009 Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound on U.S. 24 when it collided with a 2008 Chrysler Sebring passenger car driven by Logansport resident Angelia Lewis, 47. Lewis was southbound on 600 East, also known as Cass Station Road, had stopped at the stop sign for westbound traffic on U.S. 24, crossed the median and stopped again to yield to an eastbound van before pulling into the path of the motorcycle.
“I just don’t think she saw him,” said John O’Connor, a deputy for the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.
Parrish died of blunt force trauma to the head.
“Amazingly, he was wearing a helmet, and it hit just right,” said Cass County Coroner George Franklin. “It’s just an absolute shame.”
O’Connor said he did not expect charges to be filed in the crash.
Eastbound lanes of U.S. Route 24 and the whole of County Road 600 East were closed for about an hour and a half after the accident, he said.
“We’ve had several accidents at that intersection,” said O’Connor, including some fatal ones.
