— The Logansport Community School Corp. board of trustees has named a longtime Lafayette administrator as interim superintendent.

Dr. Denny Cahill was chosen to temporarily fill the vacancy left by former superintendent Julie Lauck.

The decision came during an executive session Wednesday night. The board reportedly interviewed Cahill then unanimously selected him to act as superintendent until it hires a permanent replacement.

Cahill is a retired superintendent from New Albany who spent the majority of his career in administration in Lafayette schools. He served as interim superintendent of Covington schools last year. He currently resides in Lafayette.

According to board president Dave McClure, the district will fair well under Cahill’s leadership.

“We have met with administrators and are confident school operation will continue smoothly as it has for the past two months,” McClure said.

Last month, the board of trustees approved Lauck’s severance package, which included a lump sum payment of $130,000. The decision resulted from “philosophical differences,” which the board declined to reveal due to a legal agreement with Lauck and the school corporation.

Lauck, whose last day of work was Aug. 12, had two years remaining on her contract. With salary and benefits, that totaled nearly $180,000 annually.

McClure reported that within two weeks board members will begin its search for a permanent superintendent.

“The board will discuss the criteria we are looking for in a replacement and begin the search and interview process,” McClure stated.

The board set a deadline of Jan. 3 for finding a new superintendent. Administrator Assistance, LLC. will be assisting in the search.
