— Logansport’s historic ReVere is participating in a special occasion this weekend.

The car made a trip to Auburn for the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival.

Mike Hardy, who takes care of the car and its maintenance needs, said the festival’s purpose was to honor Duesenberg, Cord and Auburn vehicles.

“The reason why the ReVere is going to be in it is because it has a walking beam engine,” he said. “It’s the design of the motor. It’s a Duesenberg design.”

As if the appearance by the Logansport ReVere isn’t rare enough, Hardy said a second ReVere is expected to be in attendance as well.

“There’s only maybe six in existence,” he said.

On Friday, everyone met at the Kendallville airport where the show cars took turns running side-by-side down the runway. Hardy was hoping the two ReVeres would make a run together.

“That’s something you may never get to see again,” he said.

Today, the car will be featured from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. in Auburn’s Eckhart Park. It will take part in a parade from 1 to 1:30 p.m., and from 1:30 to 4 p.m., all of the cars will be parked on the courthouse square.

Hardy said organizers were expecting five to seven walking beam engines and 60 Duesenbergs.

Hardy said he was invited to the festival last year by its director, Dr. John Baeke. The two have discussed the idea for two years, he said, but things didn’t work out on Baeke’s end.

Hardy is excited to finally have the chance to travel to Auburn with the car.

“I feel really honored to be able to participate,” he said. “Hopefully, this will promote the community and the Cass County Historical Society. I think it will give us some great exposure.”

Hardy said the appearance would also allow people from different areas to witness something rare.

While it can be seen during local parades and at Logansport Mall, the ReVere travels only on request.

“We don’t do things like this very often,” he said. “We’ve done a few things like this, but not many. This is a very special occasion.”
