Memorial Hospital officials are asking employees to take voluntary time off after the hospital posted a $500,000 loss last month.

Republican Tom Weatherwax raised $4,025 in the GOP primary cycle, according to his campaign treasurer, Rich McClain.

Principal Herbert McWhorter has said farewell to the last students ever to attend a public school in Kewanna. McWhorter told elementary students they may be the last class to attend school there, but teachers always put them first. Union Township Trustee Florence Earp decided to close the school, which means Union Township students will attend Rochester, Caston and Eastern Pulaski schools this fall.

Jimmie Raisor, 1326 College St., is pretending to drive a tractor parked downtown. The display is part of “Let’s Go Logansport” festivities.

In Rochester, 200 high school students danced under the stars at the Colonial Hotel, the site of the Rochester High School prom.

Seventy people attended a meeting on school consolidation in Jefferson Township.

Logansport has won the coveted North Central Conference All-Sports Trophy, edging out Muncie Central. The Berries won in part on the strength of a first-place finish in football. The gridders were undefeated for the first time in 28 years. Although they tied Richmond for the NCC title, Logansport’s schedule strength was rated as more difficult than Richmond’s. Logansport’s Dave Hart also helped the harriers to plenty of victories, winning the 880 at the state track meet with a personal best time of 1:59. His state championship is the first for LHS in more than 15 years.

Mike Cart, 17, valedictorian of his LHS graduating class, has been named a recipient off a McCormack Journalism Scholarship and will major in journalism at Northwestern University.

Phil Eskew has left the Indiana High School Athletic Association Board because he is accepting the superintendency at Huntington.

A federal anti-lynching law has been proposed.

Gov. Harold Handley and Sen. Paul Douglas of Illinois have been invited to debate on WLWI television in Indianapolis. Handley and Douglas are not running against each other, but they have different priorities for the Lake Michigan shoreline in northwest Indiana. Handley wants a seaport near Burns Ditch. Douglas wants a recreational national lakeshore.
