Big day for Logan swimmers and divers at NCC

No. 7 Winamac girls win at Knox.

On the girls side, sophomores Becca Yeoman (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle) and Jennifer Crafford (100 breaststroke) were both able to repeat as North Central Conference champions, and on the boys side, junior Dustin Clements (100 backstroke) and senior Tyler Graves (diving) each claimed their first NCC titles.

The Logan girls placed fourth as a team, and the boys placed sixth.

Winamac 47, Knox 40

Stephanie Shorter scored 27 points to lead the Class 2A No. 7 Warriors to a win at Knox.

“I was happy with the way we worked through some adversity early in the game, and in the second have as well, and hitting free throws down the stretch just added to my pleasure,” Winamac coach Jeff Wagner said. “It was the tale of two halves from the free throw line, after going 3 for 9 in the first half, the girls were able to go 21 for 25 in the second half. That was essentially the ballgame.”

Bethany Brogdon scored eight points and Jessica Schramm added six for Winamac (11-2). Whitney Hook pulled down nine rebounds.

Carroll 37, Caston 28

Ingrid Martinez scored 14 points to lead the Comets in a loss at Carroll. Anna Brown added seven.

Kaitlin Ragan had 13 points and Libby Eller added nine to lead Carroll (11-5).

Caston won at South Newton 42-23 Friday night. Martinez had 14 points, Mickayla Rans had 12 and Marli Leazenby added seven in the win.
