Pioneer wins at North White, moves to 5-0 in MWC

FULTON — The Pioneer Panthers took to the cold road Friday night to take on the North White Vikings.

The talented Vikings sported a starting lineup that included two freshmen and a sophomore along with two seniors. That line-up was good enough for 16 minutes, but fortunately for the Panthers there was still 16 more to play.

Thanks to a strong second half by the Panthers Pioneer claimed the Midwest Conference win, 71-56.

With the win the Class A No. 7 Panthers (13-3, 5-0) took another step towards winning the MWC title outright.

North White came out the aggressors and gave the experienced Pioneer squad all they could handle. Repeatedly outhustling Pioneer on both ends of the floor, North White was able to go into the break leading the visitors 35-33.

Adjustments were made by the Panthers during the break and the second half belonged to Pioneer.

“We’re not just a team that has Matt [Dorris], Brandon [Scruggs] and Carter [Skaggs]. We have other kids that play and we rely on them to step up sometimes and tonight we had a couple that did. I thought that Alex [Boonstra] and Tyler [Beaupre] both gave us some solid minutes,” said Pioneer coach Pat Skaggs.
