It was gut check time for the Winamac Warriors in the sectional championship game against West Central Friday night.
Just a few short weeks ago both squads faced off in Winamac with the Warriors suffering a humiliating loss to the Trojans. This time Winamac turned the tables as the Warriors destroyed West Central on their home field, 49-13. With the win Winamac claimed their first sectional title since the 2000 season.
Zach Shidler and Tyler Katschke were again the force behind the Warriors’ high powered offense, but it was the defense that set the tone for the game. The D-line kept Trojan quarterback Michael Hamilton running for his life the entire game and made fullback Chantz Marlatt a non-factor during the night.
“Our defensive line was embarrassed by West Central the last time we played them,” Winamac coach Tim Roth said. “I think they kind of made a statement tonight on how they can play.”
