All-county cross country team announced


The 2009 All-Cass County cross country team was selected recently. The team was chosen based on times and finishes in five select meets during the season.

The girls team consists of Lewis Cass junior Ashley Baber, sophomore Sharaya Woodmansee and freshmen Jenna Yeakley and Breanne Robertson, Pioneer juniors Bailey Farrer and Angie Moss and Logansport junior Sarah Lowry.

The boys team consists of Logansport juniors Kyle Overway and Daniel Arteaga, Pioneer senior Ryan Bice, junior Eric Simons and sophomore Cameron Cover and Cass junior Nate Wilson and sophomore A.J. Soloway.

The following are capsules of members of the teams along with three running-related questions in the order of each of the runners’ best time of the season, as provided.

Girls team

Ashley Baber, Cass

Favorite course: Culver Academies. I like to run there because it is so pretty and relaxing. Best time of the season: 20:35 at the Tipton meet. Favorite food to eat before a race: Peanut butter sandwich and lots of water.

Bailey Farrer, Pioneer

Favorite course: New Prairie. Best time of the season: 21:02. Favorite food to eat before a race: Chinese (cashew chicken & rice).

Jenna Yeakley, Cass

Favorite course: Tipton. That was the day that I finally broke 22 minutes. Best time of the season: 21:29 at Logansport during sectionals. Favorite food to eat before a race: A banana really helps to make my legs more powerful, although a granola bar helps too.

Sharaya Woodmansee, Cass

Favorite course: Culver Academies. Best time of the season: 21:43. Favorite food to eat before a race: Fruit.

Breanne Robertson, Cass

Favorite course: Culver. Best time of the season: 22:18. Favorite food to eat before a race: Any kind of fruit.

Angie Moss, Pioneer

Favorite course: New Prairie. Best time of the season: 22:38. Favorite food to eat before a race: Pop-Tarts.

Sarah Lowry, Logansport

Favorite course: New Prairie. Best time of the season: 22:45. Favorite food to eat before a race: A banana.

Boys team

Kyle Overway, Logansport


Favorite course: Culver, because it’s the best course that gives you an opportunity to PR, and there’s always good competition. Best time of the season: 15:50. Favorite food to eat before a race: Spaghetti or fettuccini and garlic bread and a couple glasses of chocolate milk.

Ryan Bice, Pioneer

Favorite course: New Prairie, because it is so much different than any other course. Best time of the season: 16:17 at sectionals. Favorite food to eat before a race: The night before — spaghetti, especially from a team dinner!

Cameron Cover, Pioneer

Favorite course: New Prairie. Best time of the season: 17:31. Favorite food to eat before a race: Brown sugar & cinnamon oatmeal.

Nate Wilson, Cass

Favorite course: Culver Academies. Best time of the season: 17:34. Favorite food to eat before a race: Bananas.

Daniel Arteaga, Logansport

Favorite course: Culver. Best time of the season: 18:02. Favorite food to eat before a race: GU energy gel.

Eric Simons, Pioneer

Favorite course: Culver. Best time of the season: 18:04. Favorite food to eat before a race: Sesame chicken & white rice.

A.J. Soloway, Cass

Favorite course: Oak Brook and the Berry Patch. Best time of the season: 19:47. Favorite food to eat before a race: Mom’s food.
