Logansport hosted a season-opening girls swim meet that went down to the wire Thursday evening.
In the end, Logan was edged by Eastern 142-136. Pioneer finished a distant third with 26 points.
“It was fun,” Logan coach Jon-Myckle Price said. “There were several girls swimming in their first high school meet. Several veteran swimmers had a strong meet for their first meet of the season.
“We have a lot of work still to do, especially on the technical side. Endurance will also be a strong focus going forward. … The best is yet to come.”
Morgan McCloskey and Peyton Zehner were triple winners for the Berries. McCloskey won the 100-yard butterfly and 100 backstroke, and Zehner won the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Both were part of the winning 400 free relay, as were Emily Branham and Ashley Fawcett.
Branham also won the 50 free. Katie Clements won the 200 free. Jordan Graham took first in the diving competition.
Logan visits Lewis Cass on Monday.
Cass 112, Delphi 73
The Queenfish won their season opener at Delphi Tuesday evening.
Individual winners on the night for Cass were Claire Pullen (200 IM, 100 breaststroke), Jade Sarver (50 free, 100 fly), Ellie Cain (100 free, 100 backstroke), Alex Sullivan (200 free) and Megan Sullivan (500 free). Destiny Darland and Kelsey Sullivan tied for first in diving.
The relays of Cain, Sarver, Pullen and Sullivan and Jay, Dollar, Tocco and Robertson also won their events.
The Queenfish host Logansport on Monday.
Girls basketball
Pioneer 58, N. Miami 46
The Panthers knocked down 11 treys in knocking off the Warriors in Royal Center.
Kelsey Williams led three Panthers (2-1) in double figures with 18 points. Morgan Shanks scored 13 and Cortney Hanson added 10. Taylor Conn added five points and a team-high nine rebounds. Williams pulled down five boards.
“We hit a lot of threes last year,” Pioneer coach Darren McKaig said. “I felt like the girls would break out sometime and just didn’t know when it’d be.”
Williams and Hanson each made three 3-pointers for the Panthers, and Shanks made two. Pioneer shot 35 percent from the 3-point arch for the game.
Sammi Wood scored 13 points and Hannah Bahney added 11 for the Warriors (1-2).
Pioneer travels to Caston on Wednesday.
