PREP ROUNDUP: Winamac volleyball has big night

Clark captures medalist honors in Cass’ golf victory

Winamac volleyball player Allie DeFries enjoyed a record-setting night on Monday.

DeFries had 11 kills in the Warriors’ 25-5, 25-18, 25-12 victory over LaCrosse. DeFries became the Warriors’ career kills leader, surpassing Erica Redweik’s previous record of 1,035. DeFries passed Redweik’s record in career aces on Saturday.

In addition, Rachael Franko had seven digs to go above the 1,000 mark for her career.

“It’s nice to see these girls breaking records, and continuing to set high standards for Winamac volleyball,” Winamac coach Cathy DeFries said. “This match was a good chance for us to get a lot of girls some playing time, and work on some new offensive things.”

DeFries also had two aces and two digs. Franko added five kills. Sarah Redweik had 17 assists, six digs and two aces. Katy Anspach had six kills and four aces, and Sarah Doty had seven aces and four digs.

GIRLS GOLF

Lewis Cass 186, Winamac 204

Cass recorded a season-low score of 186 in defeating Winamac at the Logansport G.C.

“Everybody stepped up at the plate in this match and did a nice job,” Cass coach Charley Jones said.

Cass’ Haley Clark won medalist honors with a 41. The Kings’ other players and scores were Shelby Fry (46), Bailey Oakley (47), Amber Truax (52), Macie Thomas (52) and Jena Alcorn (58).

“It was excellent,” Jones said of three of his girls shooting in the 40s. “That is one of those things that you hope will happen towards the end of the year.”

Ellie Kiser led Winamac with 46, followed by Alexis Calabrese (48), Sierra Rife (53), Felicia Gradowski (57), Haley Harper (60) and Jessica Fox (70).

Rochester 230, Pioneer 248

Brooklyn Justice shot a career low 56 in leading the Panthers. Jamie Musselman followed with a 62, and Randi Miller and Nicole Schroder each fired 65.

Rochester’s Kaitlin Fouts was medalist, shooting 51.

BOYS TENNIS

Carroll 3, Attica 2

The Carroll Cougars won its first match of the season defeating Attica in a very close match.

Carroll’s No. 1 singles player Aaron Spesard won in a shut out (6-0, 6-0). The Cougars’ No. 3 singles player Brett Miller was tops (6-1, 6-1), and the No. 2 doubles team of Jordan Hendershot and Reid Clingenpeel closed out the win with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

BOYS SOCCER

Oak Hill 4, Maconaquah 0

For the fourth straight year, Oak Hill shut out Maconaquah, but the Braves were more competitive this time according to coach Doug Howlette.
