Logansport junior Peyton Zehner has swam her way into the state finals for the third straight year.
And for the first time, she’ll be competing in two individual events.
Zehner won both the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events Saturday at the Warsaw Sectional to advance to next week’s state finals at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis. She won the 200 free in 1:59.6 and the 500 free in 5:29.9.
“Both were strong swims,” Logan coach Jon-Myckle Price said. “The 500 had a four-second drop to be a lifetime best.”
Logansport placed third as a team with 192 points. Warsaw (284) won and Culver Academy (223) was second. Plymouth (166) was fourth, followed by Columbia City (151), Huntington North (151), Rochester (104), Tippecanoe Valley (45), Wabash (32), Oregon-Davis (12) and Argos (3).
Logan senior Morgan McCloskey placed runner-up in the 50 free and was fifth in the 100 butterfly. McCloskey’s 50 free time of 26.02 was six-tenths of a second behind first-place Audrey Petro of Warsaw.
“Morgan McCloskey swam a great meet, placing second in the 50 free with a lifetime best,” Price said, “and swimming two fantastic relay legs that helped drop and the 400 free relay to a season best.”
Emilee Branham finished fourth in both the 50 and 100 free. Ashley Fawcett placed fourth in the 200 individual medley and fifth in the 500 free.
Jordan Graham placed fifth in diving to advance to Tuesday’s South Bend Riley Regional.
Katie Clements placed sixth in the 500 free and ninth in the 100 backstroke. Frankie Layman-Lopez was eighth in the 100 breaststroke. Kait Wickersham placed 12th in both the 50 and 100 free.
The Berries’ 400 free relay team of Fawcett, McCloskey, Clements and Zehner placed third. The 200 medley relay team of Clements, Zehner, McCloskey and Branham finished fourth. The 200 free relay team of Kelsey Hosler, Wickersham, Fawcett and Branham placed sixth.
“The girls had 16 swims on Saturday, 12 of them were faster than Thursday and eight of them were lifetime bests,” Price said. “This group of girls swam and cheered hard.
“Ashley Fawcett’s swims were lifetime bests in the 200 IM and 500 free. Emilee Branham saw two individual lifetime bests in the 50 and 100 free races. Katie Clements had strong swims, but had the strongest swims in her relays contributing to their time drops. Frankie Layman-Lopez swam her season best in the breast to finish her season, and Kait Wickersham moved from first alternate to scoring positions in the 50 and 100 free. Jordan Graham was our sole diver and earned a fifth place that contributed to the team’s strong third place. It’s been a great season. The girls did great. Peyton will be off to state to drop more time.”

Cass placed fifth with 113 points. McCutcheon won with 296.5.
Jade Sarver finished runner-up in the 100 free for the Queenfish. The senior finished in 56.07, more than three seconds behind first-place Kylie Vogel of Twin Lakes. Sarver also placed fifth in the 50 free.
Cass sophomore Claire Pullen finished runner-up in the 100 breast in 1:13.1, more than five seconds behind first place Melissa Auckley of McCutcheon. Pullen also placed fifth in the 200 IM.
Ellie Cain finished fourth in the 100 back and fifth in the 100 fly. Brooke Robertson placed 12th in the 100 fly.
Cass’ 200 medley relay team of Savannah Jay, Pullen, Cain and Sarver placed fifth. The 200 free relay team of Cain, Pullen, Tara Tocco and Sarver also placed fifth. The 400 free relay team of Jay, Hannah Johnson, Robertson and Tocco finished ninth.
