Warriors come up short after fast start

WINAMAC — Winamac came out swinging with the heavyweight of Class A, but the champ had too many weapons for the Warriors.

Winamac’s season came to a close at Roudebush Field Friday night by falling to Lafayette Central Catholic 49-14.

The Warriors got on the scoreboard first against the Knights by capping a 9-play drive that ended with Keegan Kasten taking it in from 1-yard out for a 7-0 lead. The score was set up by a nice 70-yard pass from Zach Shidler to Parker Fox.

Winamac’s other score came with :56 left in the second quarter when Shidler bootlegged from 33 yards out to cut into the Knights lead for a 21-14 score.

Then the wheels came off for the Warriors and it was all Central Catholic the rest of the way.

With the win, the three-time defending state champion Knights will be bumped up to Class 2A next season due to the IHSAA’s new classification rule.
