ROANOKE, Va. —
Thelma M. Huddleston-Bailey, 89, Roanoke, Va., formerly Logansport, passed away at 5:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Born in Peru, Ind., on Jan. 3, 1923, she was the daughter of Noah Allen and May Leona Sopher Glassburn. On Oct. 12, 1946, Thelma was married to Seth Justice “Jay” Huddleston, who preceded her in death March 10, 1985. On May 18, 1995, she married Orville Bailey, who preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 2003.
Thelma was a retired registered nurse from the Logansport State Hospital. She had also been employed at Memorial Hospital and the former St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was a 1940 graduate of Howard Township High School and a 1946 graduate of St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Kokomo.
Thelma was a longtime member of the Logansport Church of the Brethren, where she had served as church treasurer and president of the Women’s Fellowship. She had also been a member of the Florence Nightingale Club and volunteered at the Salvation Army, and also at the Red Cross blood banks.
Surviving are a son, David (Susanne) Huddleston, Roanoke, Va.; stepchildren, Larry (Cheryl) Bailey, Logansport, Jerry Bailey, Royal Center, Jean (Ken) Boyles, Westminster, Colo., Wesley Bailey, Delphi and Judi (Dave) Morgan, Broomfield, Colo.; grandchildren, Kyle Huddleston, Mesa, Ariz., Samantha Huddleston, Christiansburg, Va., Robert (Andrea) Huddleston, Roanoke, and Emily (Eric) Hogan, Virginia Beach, Va.; numerous step grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were a grandson, John Huddleston, one sister and two brothers.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Logansport Church of the Brethren. Pastor Aaron Gross will officiate. Interment will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Kroeger Funeral Home, and at the church one hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday.
