John T. Reiff

MONTICELLO — John T. Reiff, 73, of Monticello (Idaville area), passed away at 12:35 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at the IU Health, White Memorial Emergency Room in Monticello.

He was born March 28, 1939, in Carroll County, to H. Louise (Frye) Reiff and the late John R. Reiff. On Aug. 23, 1958, at the Idaville Church of God parsonage in Idaville, he married Reta L. Hook. She survives.

John was a lifelong resident of Adams Township, Carroll County, and was a 1957 graduate of Burnettsville High School in Burnettsville.

He had lived and farmed on the family farm in rural Idaville all of his life.

John was a member of the Board of Directors of the White/Carroll County REMC for 23 years and Treasurer of the Carroll County REMC.

He was a former Adams Township Advisory Trustee for eight years, and Carroll County ASCS Board member.

John had worked at the old RCA Factory in Monticello, Bryan Manufacturing, Idaville Furniture Factory, NIPSCO (Northern Indiana Public Service Company), and drove a school bus for the Twin Lakes School Corporation for several years.

He was a member of the Monticello Christian Church of Monticello.

John loved all of his family, children, grandchildren and all family pets, “the Grand Dogs.” He was known as the family “Dog Whisper.”

He enjoyed all the family get-togethers and going on vacations.

John volunteered for the Idaville Tractor Pulls popping popcorn for years.

He loved his Harley Davidson Motorcycle and his 1957 International 350 tractor.

John loved to travel and had been all over the U.S. and had traveled outside the U.S. as well.

Surviving are wife, Reta L. Reiff of Monticello (Idaville area); children, Teri D. (husband John) Roscka of Monticello, Bill (wife Amy) Reiff of Monticello (Idaville area), Mari (husband Danny) Barnes of West Lafayette, and David (wife Angie) Reiff of Burnettsville; grandchildren, Kelli (companion Neil Salomon) Reiff of Monticello, Jake (companion Arie Valley) Reiff of Monticello (Idaville area), Ashley Roscka of Monticello, Kate Reiff of Monticello (Idaville area), Bradley, Craig, and Tim Reiff of Burnettsville, and Emma and Sam Barnes of West Lafayette; mother, H. Louise Reiff of Monticello; sister, Marilyn (husband Don) Lesher of Idaville; four nieces; and three nephews.

His father, John Robert Reiff, preceded John in death.

Celebration of Life services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will follow at the Davis Cemetery in rural Burnettsville. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Miller-Roscka Funeral Home of Monticello.

Memorials may be given to the Twin Lakes Education Foundation in memory of John T. Reiff for agriculture scholarships.
