FULTON — Freddie G. Rice 73, Fulton, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at his residence.

He was born on June 10, 1939, in Moreland, Ky., the son of Fred and Essie (Thomas) Rice. Freddie had lived in Gravel Switch, Ky., Logansport, Twelve Mile and Pendleton prior to moving to Fulton in 1997.

He served with the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1965. On Jan. 26, 1979, in Logansport, he married Elizabeth J. “Jan” Pittman and she survives.

Mr. Rice had been a safety hazard manager for the State of Indiana, having served over 40 years in fire service. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, gardening and sitting and visiting on his front porch on Main Street in Fulton.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth J. “Jan” Rice, Fulton; daughters, Brenda Whitaker and husband Steve Whitaker, Wetmore, Kan., Sue Rice Schmitz and husband Kevin Schmitz, Netawaka, Kan.; stepson, Shawn “Mike” and wife Ute Fuller, Clarksville, Tenn.; stepdaughter, Kimberly and husband Brad Doyle, Monticello; 15 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brothers, Curtis Rice, David and wife Bulah Rice, Joe Rice, all of Danville, Ky.; sister, Lillian and husband Charlie Allender, Sandknob, Ky.; special nephew, Tharren Stevens, Parksville, Ky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Bonnie D. Rice, brothers, Michael Rice, Douglas Rice, Ottis Rice, sisters, Norma Rice, Nancy Reynolds, and sister-in-law, Ella Rice.

Graveside services will be conducted at a later date at the Fulton Cemetery, Fulton.
