Elda Doris Shaver, 95, Logansport, passed away on Jan. 14, 2013, at her daughter’s residence in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Born on March 27, 1917, in Logansport, she was the daughter of the late Edward Roland and Signa Wilson Hutton. On Feb. 14, 1937, in Logansport, Elda married Charles C. Shaver who preceded her in death on June 2, 2005. Charles and Elda were married for 68 years before his passing.
Elda was a homemaker. She was also an accomplished seamstress and hairdresser.
A 1934 graduate of Logansport High School and a graduate of Beauty College in Chicago, she was a member of First United Methodist Church, former member of the League of Women Voters, former board member of the Cass County Children’s Home, former Brownie Scout Leader, and current member of the Royal Center Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen (Rich) Wild, Logansport, and Nancy (Terry) Sturgeon, Kalamazoo, Mich.; one brother, Dr. Charles (Dr. Lucreda) Hutton, Winamac; seven grandchildren, Michael Wild, Jeffrey (Dawn) Wild, Kevin (Melissa) Wild, Craig (Deanna) Sturgeon, Cathy Bethard, Thomas (Allison) Sturgeon, and Brian (Sara) Sturgeon; 17 great-grandchildren, Brandon (Morgan) Wild, Sarai (Cody) Anthis, Evan Wild, Alanna Wild, Joseph (Lynne) Sturgeon, Andrew Sturgeon, Christopher (Annie) Sturgeon, Erica, Rebecca, Nicole, Alyssa, and David Bethard, Eliza, Emma, Luke, Madison, and Ty Sturgeon; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Maple.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor Dean Fager officiating.
Private burial will be held in Mount Hope Cemetery, Logansport. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Logansport.
