Claud Si Grizzell

WINAMAC — Claud Si Grizzell, 96, Winamac, died at 8:08 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, in Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac.

Claud was born June 19, 1916, in Denison, Texas, to parents Claud A. Grizzell and Mary E. Wertz Grizzell.

He married Mary E. Petrungaro in 1951 in Chicago, Ill. Mary died March 24, 1984. Claud married Dolores M. Small Lasley May 31, 1986, in Logansport.

He was a retired stationary engineer for the Sherman-Williams Co. in Chicago. He also worked as a photographer for several newspapers.

He was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church, Logansport; Twin Rivers Muzzle Loaders, Logansport; National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association; Fulton County Historical Society, Rochester; and Mill Creek Trappers.

Claud served in the U.S. Navy from 1939 to 1945.

He was a Life Member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion, Winamac.

He was a member of the USS Cushing DD-376 Reunion Association. He was serving aboard the ship when it was sunk at the Battle of Guadalcanal.

He was preceded in death by father, Claud A. Grizzell; mother, Mary E. Wertz Grizzell; stepmother, Ocie Grizell; first wife, Mary E. Petrungara Grizzell; and brothers, Leslie R. Grizzell, James M. Grizzell and David A. Grizzell.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores M. Small Grizzell, Winamac; son, Charles G. (Clara) Grizzell, Schofield, Wis.; daughters, Donna M. (Mick) Macaluso, Grants Pass, Ore., Gail R. (John) Vye, Rockford, Ill., and Nancy Lee (David) Finklestein, Silver Springs, Md.; stepdaughters, Cheryl Ann Johnson, Macomb, Ill., Amanda S. (Neal) Fry, Austin, Texas, Carrie Lynn Huse, Winn, Mich. and Gail Marie Ayers, Logansport; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and three sisters-in-law.

A funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. (EST) Tuesday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Winamac, with the Rev. Mike McKinney and the Rev. Martin Sandhage officiating. The VFW and the American Legion will conduct military services immediately following services at the church. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, Alsip, Ill.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. (EST) Monday at Frain Mortuary. A rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. It will be immediately followed by a scriptural wake service.

Memorials may be given to the All Saints Catholic Church or to St. Peter’s Catholic Church
