MONTICELLO —
Alonzo “Lon” C. Brady, 88, Monticello, passed away at 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at Residence.
He was born April 15, 1924, in South Bend to the late Wilbur and Gladys (Curtis) Brady. He married Betty (Hunter) on April 12, 1947, in Franklin, she survives.
Lon graduated from Monticello High School in 1942 and joined the United States Marine Corp. He served in the Pacific Theatre and was a Purple Heart Recipient. He was wounded in Okinawa and member of the Disabled Veterans of Logansport. Lon retired from Gen Corp as plant manager of Logansport and Peru Plants in 1987 after 35 years of service.
Lon was a member of the Yeoman United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Elks, Eagles, Moose, American Legion and Kiwanis, all of Logansport. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and VFW, both of Monticello. While in Logansport, he served on the Cass County United Way Board of Directors and was a member of the Logansport Chamber of Commerce. He managed a Babe Ruth baseball team for 13 years and had been a Boy Scout leader. He was a charter member of SFLECC Board of Directors, Monticello.
He is survived by two sons, Daniel Brady, Kalkaska, Mich., Scott (Mary) Brady, Logansport; two daughters, Sherri Shafer of Walton, Judy (Rick) Sweet, Monticello; eight grandchildren, Michelle (William) Contestable, Michael (Andrea) Brady, Kim (Troy) Robertson, Jesse Shafer, Heather Shafer, Julie (Joel) Pepple, Wendi (Terryn) Elliott, Kristen Sweet.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Dee Ames, and grandson Jason Brady.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services at 1 p.m. Saturday at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Ellison, Serenity Hospice, and Rev. Doug Thompson, Yeoman United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will follow at Yeoman Cemetery with military rites rendered.
