Wilma Parish

ROYAL CENTER — Wilma Jean Plotner Parish, 80, Royal Center, passed away at 7:28 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at her residence.

Born Nov. 15, 1931, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of the late William and Bessie Hayden Richey. On Feb. 20, 1949, she married George Plotner, and he preceded in death Jan. 5, 1977. She later married Glen Parish on Dec. 5, 1981, and he preceded in death on April 26, 2004. She was a 1949 graduate of Buffalo High School.

Jean owned and operated Jean’s Beauty Shop in Royal Center for over 30 years, retiring in 2002. She was also a homemaker. She was a member of Baptist Christian Church in Royal Center.Jean was a music lover. She also enjoyed quilting and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, Ronald Plotner (Deb Dailey) of Lafayette; daughters, Judy Willis, of Royal Center, Georgena Bayless (Terry), of Franklin, Deb Rhodes (Steve), of Logansport, and Pam Schmaltz (Jeff), of Royal Center; stepson, Jeff Parish (Karen), of Logansport; stepdaughters, Barb Williams (Merle), of Lafayette, and Janet Billmire (Dick), of Indianapolis; sisters, LaVaughn Richardson, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Sue Long (Wayne), of Carmel. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Mable Richey, of Buffalo; six grandchildren, Tony Willis (Robin), Curt Willis, Brandon Schmaltz, Brittany Schmaltz, David Rhodes and Kati Ghent; four great-grandchildren, Grace, Brady, Lucas and Miles Ghent; nine stepgrandchildren and grandson-in-law, Chris Gerhart.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Vern, Charles and Harold Richey; sister, Gladys Williams; and grandchildren, Natalie Rhodes-Gerhart and Blake Schmaltz.

A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Harrison-Metzger and Rans Royal Center Chapel with Pastors Steve Long and Richard Utterback officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Royal Center Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Natalie Gerhart Scholarship Fund and/or the Blake Schmaltz Scholarship Fund.
