Harland D. Baber

Harland D. Baber, 94, Logansport, passed away at 12:50 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Logansport Memorial Hospital, Logansport.

He was born Aug. 27, 1918 in Cass County, to the late Orval and Cora (Campbell) Baber. On Sept. 21, 1938 in Peru, he married Pauline M. (Burkett) Baber; she survives. They have been happily married for 74 years.

Harland graduated in 1936 from Walton High School. He was a life-long farmer. He was a member of the Conservation Club; he enjoyed puzzle books, woodworking, bird watching and fishing. He served on the board of directors at the Walton elevator company.

Surviving is his wife of 74 years; Pauline Baber, Logansport, daughter and a son-in-law; Phyllis A. Cooksey, Logansport, son and a daughter-in-law; Russell A. and Evon Baber, Twelve Mile, daughter and a son-in-law; Carmen S. and Alan Sharp, Goodland, daughter; Rita J. Baber, Huntersville, N.C., and many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister-in-law; Jean Baber, Walton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers; Forrest, Gordon, Orval Jr., “Doc”, Robert, and James Baber.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Murray Weaver Funeral Home, Galveston, with the Rev. Bill Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Ever Rest Memorial Park Cemetery, Logansport.  Friends may visit with the family from 11-1 PM Wednesday at the mortuary.   Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.murrayweaverfuneralhome.com.
