Katherine ‘Kaddy’ Stouder

Katherine (Kaddy) Anne Stouder, 84, passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Harbour Assisted Living of Fort Wayne.

Kaddy was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. She joined the Navy in 1950. While she was stationed in Alameda, Calif., she met and married Harley Noel Stouder from Fort Wayne, Ind. Even though she spent 60 plus years in Fort Wayne, raising a large family there, she still always referred to returning to her Brooklyn, N.Y. “home.”

Over the years, she was a dedicated Democratic precinct Committee person in southeast Fort Wayne, busily knocking on doors and registering voters and working the polling places on election days, keeping poll lists and turning out the vote. She also was a tireless volunteer at John S. Irwin School, at various times as a room mother, a PTA volunteers, and as a classroom assistant. In more recent years, she worked as a volunteer at the Embassy Theater.

She enjoyed her monthly games of bridge with her friends, and she was a voracious reader, who seemed to know everything; and wondered how a person could possibly not know whatever particular thing arose in a given conversation.

She is survived by Fran Neary, Wayne, Pa., sister; Gregg (Deb) Stouder, son, Fort Wayne; Todd Stouder, son, Fort Wayne; Alan (Ruth) Stouder, son, Pioneer, Ohio; Brian (Pam) Stouder, son, Fort Wayne; Jason Stouder, son, Fort Wayne; Emily (Marty) D’Amico, granddaughter, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Tyler (Danielle) Stouder, grandson, New York, N.Y.; Matt (Brittney) Stouder, grandson, Fort Wayne; Grant Stouder, grandson, Fort Wayne; Shelby and Chloe Stouder, granddaughters, Fort Wayne; Skylar and Bristyn Stouder, great-granddaughters, Fort Wayne.

Generally, she was referred to by one and all as “the Queen Mother” – a title which seemed to fit.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 31 years, Harley Noel Stouder, her brothers Marty and Rocky, and her parents.

Calling from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Memorials may be made to the Southern Care Hospice. To sign the online guestbook, go to www.mccombandsons.com.
