WINAMAC —
Olive M. Braun, 101, Winamac, died at 1:08 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at her residence.
Born Sept. 17, 1911, in Winamac, she was the daughter of Harry and Lydia Freiske Freeman. Olive was married on Feb. 8, 1933, in St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Winamac, to Joseph J. Braun. He passed away on Feb. 7, 1986.
She was a member of the Monroe Home Extension Club for many years. Olive was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Ladies of Charity and was always helping at the Good Samaritan Store. Known as the “Doll Lady,” Olive would dress hundreds of dolls at Christmastime to be distributed to children in the area. Olive was a seamstress and made many quilts. She also made lap robes and donated them to local nursing homes.
Survivors include daughter, Joan E. Heath, Lafayette; son, Ralph W. (Melody) Braun, Winamac; grandchildren, Patricia (John) Bawcum, Winamac, Donna (Greg) Rothfeldt, Apollo Beach, Fla., Cherie (Paul Macchione) Braun-Diaz, Seminole, Fla., Joseph (Kathy) Heath, Brookston, Todd (Amy) Braun, Chicago, Jeff (Cindy) Heath, Indianapolis, Drew (Lisa) Braun, Belleair Beach, Fla., and
Melissa (Nathan) Dennis, Winamac; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marjorie Thomas, Winamac; and brother,
Vernal Freeman, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; nine brothers and sisters; granddaughter, Gloria Scharf-Beedie; and husband, Joseph Braun.
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Winamac, with the Rev. Martin Sandhage officiating.
Entombment will take place in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Winamac.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today followed immediately by a Christian Mothers service and a Scriptural Wake Service.
Memorial contributions may be given to Ladies of Charity.
